Happy Earth Day!!!

Today has been another beautiful day. Each day I wake up afraid to mention how gorgeous it is outside with fear it will snow the next day! It was School for Mr.Daniel and then home to play outside and then a nice long nap. I'm still working on my projects to finish up my first block of classes, so I welcomed the nice long nap from the 4yr old!

In honor of earth day, I have been checking out some Eco-friendly ways to conserve our earth! If you are looking for a few earth friendly changes for your house, visit this web-site, it has some really great ideas!!

Here are the things I hope to change around here as time goes on...
  • using reusable bags from Meijer for all of our groceries. I have a bazillion(is this a number?) white bags that are seriously all over the place...I will welcome a few nice bags to haul groceries around in!
  • Use totes for recycling. Even though there is no pick up at our home, When I'm in town, I can take the items to the recycling center.
  • Turn the water off while we brush our teeth. It's amazing how much water you can waste during that!
  • Change our shower-head to a low-flowing one to cut back on the water usage.
  • Make one night during the week- lights out night. Unplug TV, lamps, computers-anything that uses electricity and just hang out. This will save TONS not only on our light bill, but also preserves energy(and gives us more quality family time)
  • Take shorter showers.
  • Keep a compost pile in the back. This for me is kinda gross, but it does save on dinner waste(and makes GREAT soil for gardening and planting). I can keep a bucket in the kitchen and have S take it out each night(yeah, that can be his job!)
  • Buy Organic foods when possible
  • Use more rags in the place of paper towels. I think we use WAY to many of these!
  • Cleaning all the backs of appliances(another ick) and help them run more efficiently
  • and the best thing...now that it's summer- I can use my clothes line instead of my dryer!!!

Now we are by far "tree-huggers" and often throw things away that probably should have been recycled. However, I really want to try to do better about this. Do my part in keeping the earth beautiful for our children to enjoy.

How about you? What steps are you taking to keep our earth beautiful?
