Fresh Baked Cookies

Well, we've falled off the wagon.
Or-atleast we fell off the wagon for a night.
The other night it was so bitter
cold out and we were running out
of indoor activities, so my very
awesome and wonderful husband
decided to make some of his famous homemade
chocolate chip cookies.
We haven't had them in a long time
and we decided to splurge.
This was Daniels first time getting to help
Daddy with his "secret" recipe. And, I believe
we now have "Team Watkins-Cookie makers"
Daniel pulled his little stepstool into the kitchen
and took his task VERY seriously. At one point
he told me it was "no guls awowd.."
(of course meaning no girls allowed...)
Although Daddy assured him that Mommy
was OK to know the "secret" recipe...
He cracked the eggs(and we had to use 4 since 2 of them
went down the front of the counter) Dumped the
measuring cups, helped spoon out the sugars,
unwrapped the butter, and ate some chocolate chips
(just to be sure they were ok!)He tried a bite
of the sugar because he was sure it was snow.
Then he thought the flour was the sugar
and took a BIG bite of that..ICK!
He turned the mixer on high and a big white
cloud surrounded him. After it was
all mixed, he took a final taste and asked
Daddy-why do we have to cook it??
I also have to take a minute to thank God
for my unbelieveably awesome husband.
Its amazing to watch him with our precious little boy.
The counter was a mess. Daniel was a mess.
I even think Steve had stuff all over him.
But he never once lost patience and even found
humor in whatever Daniel was doing. I'm so blessed
with a husband that is loving, kind, and a fantastic
teacher with our little guy. When Daniel
cracked the egg and crushed it with his hand
he just made sure he showed him that
when you crack the egg, have it over the container!
The flour got dumped on the floor and
I'm still not sure if any chocolate chips
were IN the bowl. Who cares if the floors
a mess, it can clean up later. Daniel can be
tossed into the bath and I can clean off the
counters. We hope that this night was one
of those "memory maker" nights and he
will always remember it.
There is nothing like the smell of fresh baked
cookies and a tall glass of cold milk to bring
back childhood memories of your first baking/
cooking experiences..
Watching him and Daddy in the kitchen reminded
me of all the times I got to help my Aunt Mimi
in her kitchen. Baking cakes, pies for family gatherings,
cookies, whatever it might be she was making at the time.
Most of the time she would
cook and I would play in her cupboard full
of tupperware containers and pots and pans.
I was sure I was able to create the same
thing she was making. She was always patient,
encouraging and loving. Always willing to let
me "help" in whatever she was doing.
I know the saying is-it takes a village to raise a child.
I've always considered her my other Mother.
I could ramble on for days about memories of her
that fill my heart with joy.
I'm thanking God for you today Aunt Mimi,
Thank you for always being the place no matter
what was happening in my life- I could always call
HOME.
Love you

The crop on the 10th is $20.00 which includes 2 meals. It should be lots of fun...feel free to bring anyone else...with one paid person, you can bring someone free!
